Here are some of the factors we at vaccines for travels consider during our assessment

Before travelling, it’s important to consult with your doctor or visit a specialist travel clinic to find out which (if any) vaccinations you will need.

You may be able to find some information about the most common diseases and vaccinations for your destination online, but determining which vaccinations are right for you is more complicated than a simple Google search.

There are a number of factors we need to take into consideration in order to decide what vaccinations you need to stay healthy. Below, you’ll find a list of the most important factors we consider when assessing travel medical care.

1 – Where you’re going

While not the only factor, your destination is very important. Most diseases are common within particular areas, so where you travel affects what you’ll be at risk for coming into contact with.

2 – Where you’re staying

The country you’re going to isn’t the only information we need about your destination. We also need to know what kind of place you’ll be staying in. Will you be staying at a resort hotel, camping in the countryside, or staying with locals in a rural area? These differences affect how likely you are to be exposed to different diseases. In general, the risk is higher in more rural areas, but this can vary in different regions.

3 – What you’re doing

We’ll also need to know what kind of activities you’re planning during your trip. If you’re planning a lot of outdoor activities such as hiking, we’ll need to take into consideration that you’ll be coming into contact with a lot of wildlife, including insects. If you will be working as a medical worker or foreign aid worker, you’ll need to take extra precautions.

4 – How long you’re going for

The longer your trip is, the more exposure to diseases you’re likely to have. We need to know how long you’ll be travelling to assess your risk.

5 – When you’re going

When you’ve scheduled your trip can make a difference. Some diseases are more prevalent during certain seasons, so you’ll need to be prepared based on when you’ll be travelling.

6 – Your overall health

Before we give any vaccinations, we need to know about your overall health. Some vaccinations are risky for people who have pre-existing conditions, while other health problems may increase your risk while travelling. We’ll also need to know your age and vaccination history.
