The most common reason for countries requiring vaccinations is travellers being exposed to more diseases in new countries. Many places outside of the UK, particularly those in tropical regions or rural areas, have diseases that are not common at home.
This means that you have no natural immunity built up towards them, and you have probably not been vaccinated against them as a child. This means that, as a traveller, you can be highly vulnerable to new and very dangerous diseases.
For an extensive list of countries that allow unvaccinated travel, see thetimes.co.uk’s article here.
Different countries have different isolation laws when travelling to and from the United Kingdom. See gov.org’s guidance on travelling here.
Prices at Vaccines for Travel begin at £10 but can vary greatly depending on the travel vaccine or combination of vaccines you require for your trip.
A vaccination contains a weakened or dead pathogen (a bacterium, virus, or microbe that can cause disease), that in turn triggers the body’s adaptive immune response. When you receive a vaccination, your immune system will begin the production of antibodies and memory cells to combat the ‘infection,’ so immunising you against the virus in its unweakened form.
Each country has various vaccination regulations and recommendations. Check out our travel guides, or the NHS website for an in-depth understanding of the vaccinations you need for your planned trip.
The average immune response after being vaccinated takes between 7 and 21 days, though it is advisable to get vaccinated at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to travel. This is so that the vaccinations have sufficient time to take effect, whilst some require multiple doses over a period of weeks to months.
